In the past few lesson we have realised that although the filming we have used is good quality the lighting is too bright to create the ‘chilling’ feel to the opening sequence that we hoped to create.
Lighting plays a key role in filming as it can set the tone for the film, and help to create a atmospheric setting, for example bright natural light could be used in scenes of day time, however a warm orange filtered light could create more shadows and show that this particular part of the film has been set in the evening. Lighting is just 1 way for directors to direct attention attention on characters.
In my opinion I think Colour mainly creates the mood lighting helps to create the atmosphere. To create these in final cut I made the decision to change the lighting. I thought it would be better to give the scenes a blue/purple taint to it to give it this saddening, scary effect. To further this affect we dimmed the lighting and increased the ‘blacks’ in density within our footage. Because we shot it during the day time we need to adjust this in order to make is seem as it was shot during the night time instead.
We did this by:
· Opening up the clip we would like to modify
· Clicking on – effects- video filters-colour correction-colour corrector
· Slightly desaturate the picture ( to take away any bright colours)
· Add more black by dragging the cursor across
· Also adding more white or adding less whites depending on how dark the shot already is
· Select the next clip and repeat the process
