Excess use of the color black can represent several different things. In this case I think that the color black is used to represent evil, shadows, and death, this creates a mysterious effect in the opening sequence because nearly everything shown to us has this ’gothic’ dark effect.
We also realize everything is shiny and metallic looking , this may be to show ‘power’ within the film.
When we first start to view this opening sequence the images flash on and off the screen in time with the music while the credits are being played over the top. The completes the black and white theme look that this sequence has. Also by doing this be begin to wonder is the sound is diegetic or non diegtic because we cannot fully see what is going on.
This sequence could be described as abstract almost like a nightmare. The dark tones used within the piece can be ‘scary’ for the audience. As each image we see if different nothing seems to flow within the sequence. This opening is very different from a lot of other because it does not give away the story line.
